India’s Covid-19 case fatality rate continued its downward trend. With a CFR of 2.25%, the country enjoys one of the lowest fatality rates globally. This is because of the effective implementation of the containment strategy, wide door-to-door surveys, aggressive testing, standardised treatment protocols and a wholistic approach that ensured that hospitals are not overburdened with cases, a ministry of health release said on Tuesday.
The state/UT governments focused on bringing down fatalities by prioritising high-risk populations using field staff. The CFR has fallen from nearly 3.33% in mid-June to 2.25%, the release said.

The three-tier hospital system and seamless patient management helped improve the recovery rate in the country. India registered more than 30,000 recoveries per day for the fifth day running. Efforts towards early detection and isolation resulted in better recovery rate, the release said. The recovery rate jumped from 53% in mid-June to 64%. The total recoveries stand at 9,52,743 as of today.

India recorded 47,704 new cases and 654 deaths in the last one day, while the total confirmed cases rose to 14,83,157. The number of active cases is 4,96,988, while 9,52,744 patients have been cured. The death toll rose to 33,425 today, according to the Union health ministry. The global death toll from the coronavirus pandemic touched 6,54,000-mark today.
The new Coronavirus, detected first in Chinese city Wuhan, has infected more than 16.5 million people across the world. It has claimed 6,53,353 lives till today. The US, India, Brazil and Russia are among the worst affected countries.
